When grinding goes wrong (and when it's fine)
Grinding gets a bad reputation, but it isn't inherently bad. The question is whether the repetition teaches you something or just eats your time.
Good grinding gives feedback. Each run in a tower defence teaches a slightly better placement; each RPG fight nudges your build. You're improving even when the loop repeats.
Bad grinding is when the game stops changing and just gates progress behind numbers. If you're replaying the same wave purely to inflate a stat, with no new decisions, that's a design smell.
We flag this in reviews. Emberfall Legends has a mid-game grind, but its auto-battle softens it, so you skip the dull fights and keep the interesting ones. That's a fair compromise.
Ask yourself during a grind: am I getting better, or just getting older? If it's the latter, the game may not deserve your evenings.
